The Full Moon Lunar Eclipse in Taurus commences now, November 19th at 1:02am EST. Just as any full moon implies an opposition to the sun, this Taurus Lunar Eclipse stares down the Sun in Scorpio, highlighting the third decan or ‘face’ — that is the last 10° stretch — of both fixed yin signs across their natural axis.
Here, we have the internality of passion, drive, (dis)entanglement of person and the ‘object’ of their desire — all themes of Scorpio, its third and last decan in particular — staring down a Moon placed in purportedly stable Taurus. But the last face of Taurus is concerned with failure and scarcity as much as abundance and fecundity, the turns of fortune which might yield less than a previous moment as things go in the ebb and flow. All this enshrouded by the releasing energy of an eclipse, which prompts a shift in the soul and psyche’s momentum surrounding the aforementioned themes in particular.
This comes on the heels of a week during which Mercury and Mars have made successive oppositions to Uranus in Taurus. ‘The Breaker’ planet — so-called by Richard Tarnas in his seminal essay Prometheus the Awakener, which posits Prometheus a more archetypally fitting name for Uranus — will become increasingly involved in the series of eclipses across the Taurus-Scorpio axis this lunar eclipse marks the first of. The astrologer Gray Crawford has expounded on his keenly in one of his most recent writings
With Saturn in Aquarius in the mix, and the approach of 2021’s third and final Saturn-Uranus square, this week and those remaining in this year are a particularly dynamic time for fixed signs and fixed sign placements in particular… and this is a year that has already been very potent for said placements of Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius. Last year wrapped much of the cardinal sign punishment!
For the past decade I’ve been fond of saying that cardinal signs represent ‘generation’ on the left and ‘preparation’ on the right; fixed signs ‘transformation’ on the left and ‘concentration’ on the right; mutable signs ‘reintegration’ on the left and ‘dissemination’ on the right. Have you felt passionate momentum with skips in the record needle, jolts in the circuitry, oscillations between desire and aversion, new truths illuminating persistent focus? If so, you are not alone, and you probably know that. Some other things to look out for lately
* inner desires vs. external yields
* complements or harsh contrasts between the above
* fixed energy finding interruptions
* focuses shifting with surprise revelations
* high productivity with random moments of derailing
* surprises stirring sudden inner reactions
* random sparks of happiness or conflict that simmer back to baseline
* the desire for stronger containers in human relationship, but that do not negate excitement
* rootedness amidst change, and new ways of imagining the coexistence of both
